Sammy Avila
Sam Avila AKA
"Hammond Sam, Slammin' Sam, Sammy" was born into a musical household and
raised in San Gabriel, California. He has played music out in the San
Gabriel valley for the whole of his whole life. Both his parents sang and
played the guitar and would often perform casuals around the greater Los
Angeles area. Sammy, sites his parents as his earliest musical influence and
holds them accountable for filling him up with the necessary fuel to last a
lifetime.
Sammy started in
high school playing in a horn band, mainly R&B, and some blues tunes too. He
started listening to Hendrix, Clapton and Cream and got into their music.
During these years, he cut his teeth on the L.A. club circuit and found
himself playing keyboards with a vast array of musical acts.

In 2001 Sammy joined Walter Trout and the
Radicals and performs with them to this day. In the last year alone they've
toured places like: Pacific Northwest in the USA (Seattle/Tacoma, Vancouver
in Canada, Reno Nevada and Portland Oregon), Germany, Lithuania, Italy,
France Etc. On tour Sammy plays a Korg CX3 and for the piano he has a Yamaha
S30 which also is a synth. The Korg runs into the Leslie and the piano right
into the PA through a little amp. At home he has a Hammond stock B3.
