Walter Trout and the Radicals

US TOUR FOR GUITAR-GREAT, WALTER TROUT

New CD Release: Deep Trout -  a historical compilation from the European Years of Walter Trout

The British know a thing or two about Guitar Players. So when the BBC polled their listeners asking them to rank the top 20 guitar greats, it didn’t surprise the Brits that Walter Trout ranked 6th. And Trout isn’t even British. He was born in New Jersey and makes his home in California.

This love and appreciation from the European and British audiences resulted in many CD releases prior to Trout being discovered stateside, and this is what the CD, “Deep Trout” is all about:

Deep Trout is a historical compilation of songs from the years of Walter Trout’s career when he was yet to be discovered in the United States. Deep Trout features a collection of songs spanning in time from 1989 – 1997.

In addition there are 3 bonus tracks, one from 1972 showcasing a very young and enthusiastic Walter playing with his band, Wilmont Mews from the years when Walter’s band was in steep competition with another Jersey band, Steel Mill featuring Bruce Springsteen!. Another bonus track features Walter as a studio musician in a session with Freebo (Bonnie Raitt, John Mayall, Roy Buchanan). Through out the CD Walter showcases his knack for great song writing, smokin’ guitar riffs, and solos that move and inspire. This CD offers a sample of the kind of music that defined the start of Walter Trout’s solo career, and what inspired his now devoted, loyal, European fans to become believers of Trout’s brand of HARDCORE BLUES!!!

Besides the new CD, the summer of 2005 brings Walter Trout and his Radical band across the USA. A month long tour will bring the Trout brand of blues to many festivals across the heartland, but also appearances in clubs and concert venues.

Trout is more than just a Guitar Great; he’s an American Treasure. He wasn’t just on the sidelines when history was being made. He played his part in the music that forever shaped our culture as a sideman with John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, Canned Heat and John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. As a solo artist Walter has toured relentlessly for the past 16 years, solidifying his career in Europe, and for the past six years making waves here in the US as well.

Both on record and on stage, Trout keeps the art of blues thriving and vivacious. Blues Revue comments: “Trout gets into the groove where the magic happens. But each night offers a particular set of circumstances that keep the music fresh.” From introspection to full blown rockin’ blues, Trout’s music is always marked by his adept song writing, sturdy vocals, searing guitar work and ability to enhance the boundaries of one of music’s oldest forms. But as Trout is quick to point out, "the blues shouldn’t be a museum. The music ought to constantly expand and be alive."

And fortunately for generations of Americans, at age 54, Trout is still touring. He’s a Guitar Great not just for what he’s done, but also for what he’s still able to do. His talent transcends time, and his music speaks across boundaries of age and culture. Hardcore Blues, rock, Song writing, and energetic performances, it’s all in there with a good dose of heart and soul.

Deep Trout is available in record stores or online at Amazon or www.waltertrout.com.  Check out the new CD for yourself, then catch Walter Trout’s summer 2005 US Tour and you’ll see why the world calls him a Guitar-Great.
